Overwatch 2 - Samoa

Samoa is my third Overwatch map and it was an honor to contribute to several of the larger rock structures including the volcano that’s visible from all three points. For this map I made several new rock tileables and did plant and rock placements on the beach and volcano points. I also did the usual amount of optimization, collision reduction, and bugfixing.

Many thanks to Peter C Lee and Phil Wang for their direction and leadership on this one. All our maps are a team effort and this one included environment artists Justin McMillan, Kyle Tallant, Molly Warner, Bryan Shannon as well as the talented artists and Airborn and Room8.

I was responsible for modeling and vertex painting the ground on the beach point, which included authoring new tiling rock textures in Substance Designer.

These larger rock caves are a combination of my hand-modeled geo and sculpted rock models that came to us from Airborn.

Kyle Tallant and I worked on the backdrop for the beach point. I made the rock materials and the hill models in the foreground.

For the thermal energy plant I was responsible for making the volcano caldera including materials for the cooled lava. The tiling textures were made in Substance.

The lava plates were sculpted in ZBrush and baked to textures.
